Our fourth and final project of the semester was creative engineering. We had to find a problem with the world, and figure out some way to solve it. Whether it was clean water, population problem, or waking up earlier, we had to choose something. Our group (Jenna, Rachel, Mimi and I) chose mental illness. Mental illness was including depression, anxiety, and suicidal tendencies. We decided that the best way to go was to make a website filled with self help and how to deal with your illness to help you realise you are not alone and there are people who can help you.
Below you can find the link to our website and the script that we used to present our idea to the class.

PRESENsTATION 9 and three quarters
Anxiety affects 6.8 million adults in the U.S. Only one third of all those people get treats for a completely treatable disorder.
Anxiety has awful effects on you like panic, insomnia, shortness of breath, numbness, nausea, muscle tension, and more. It can prevent work from getting done and people from being happy. And everyone is entitled to the pursuit of happiness.
More than 350 million people of all ages suffer from depression. Depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide.
Since anxiety and depression affect so many people, we need a solution. That’s why we have made Better Your Angst.
A website is a quick, free, and anonymous way to learn about and start to diminish your anxiety and depression.
People don’t want to have to pay to get advice for their troubles or constantly have to talk about it over and over again to a paid therapist. Some people don’t even want to admit that they are suffering.
A website is an easy way to put thoughts outs there and receive feedback and stories from people who want to share and help others. The point of Better Your Angst is to create a community where people can share and continue the website with their stories of help and troubles from their anxiety or depression.
On our website, we have given the option for visitors to leave us emails on the Tell Your Story page. If they decide to do this, their comment will be posted by us anonymously on that page.
We included this option because we have found research that proves that it is good to communicate with others and share your story, thoughts, and emotions about what you are dealing with.
We also created Better Your Angst to inform the people who visit our website of some of the facts about anxiety and depression.
We have included links to real studies and facts about anxiety and depression and ways to deal with both to help inform our website’s visitors about what they may be dealing with. In order to solve a problem, one must educate yourself first.
Engineering Design Cycle
What is the engineering design cycle? some may ask. Well I have the answer for you.
This is the engineering design cycle:
1.Identify the need
2.Research the Problem
3.Develop possible solutions
4.Select the most promising solution
5.Construct a prototype
6.Test and evaluate the prototype
7.Communicate the design
8.Redesign
9.Repeat
This is how we used the engineering design cycle
1. Depression and anxiety worldwide affects a lot of people, not just adults. We figured it was a pretty good cause.
2. We did a lot of research on anxiety, depression, suicide, and even self harm.
3. We brainstormed solutions. At first we thought of creating an app, but that didnt go so well so we made a website.
4. The most promising solution was definitely the website. We could do it in class and at home.
5. We started building the website on the website creator IMcreator.com
6. We evaluated our website and decided what we should put on it.
7. We posted the website online for the public and we presented our idea to the class.
8. We reevaluated our ideas again and added and deleted unnecessary and necessary things.
9. we will repeat the cycle....one day.
Reflection
I liked this project. I like the subject, the people i worked with, and i liked the solution we came up with. I think the website we created was really cool. We did practically everything correctly. Two things that we should have worked on were finding a better website creator, and practicing on our presentation. Two things that went well were our research and how well we worked together. I learned a lot about the causes of anxiety and depression and what can cure/help them. One of the good things was when we first got our website up and going and we wrote in everything and put in all our pictures. Something bad that happened was that we couldn't really figure out some of the features of the website creator and we don't have an actual domain name because you have to pay for those. All in all this was a really cool project and it was really interesting to learn about all the things the other groups presented and to delve deeper into some serious subjects.
